I'm betting a certain 28 team is scrambling. The new rules say 2x4 .120 thick for the front clip on strut cars. That car is 2x3 and pretty sure its not .120 thick. And it says NO scabbing to make it 2x4.

Wouldn't that be cool... I think the 12" engine set back, 4 link, and alcohol 4 barrell might not get past the tech guys.... ;D ;D.

I wonder if the rules makers are just targeting a certain few?

I really dont see how you can say the promoter is targeting any certain teams as the 28 team in question actually works for him. therefore you would think he would accomodate him if anything. If I am not mistaken that certain 28 team was thrown out of the track for a few weeks as well.

Come on now!!! Bondo and wood is a little extreme! brianwegs, you read into these posts what you want to hear. I asked a question, I did not say any car in particular. Seems like "you" may have an issue with the 28 car.

Come on now!!! Bondo and wood is a little extreme! It's been done... I won't name names, but, the guy told me he did it. He may have been pulling my leg, but, according to him he duct taped 1x2 wood to his 2x2 chassis to make it 2x3. Now were talking about from the clip back, not sure I would do that to the front clip.

Seems like "you" may have an issue with the 28 car. I think what he is trying to point out, is Vern is trying to be fair to everyone. He has been accused of letting the 28 get away with things because he works for him. I think this shows that this isn't the case.

I hear what you are saying there rocker, but Vern just took the angle of affordabilty out of the division. Let me explain. All of these so called questionable cars have been built using old discarded late model chassis, therefore the cost of these chassis are quite a bit less than starting with a new one. Since no chassis builder is using 2x4 material anymore guys will build them from scratch which throws in the element of safety, let alone a the additional cost of new tubing. This new rules package could very well be 4 or 5 steps backwards for this division!

The 2x4 no scabbing only applies to the front clips on the strut cars. Being that they don't have much of a stock clip, the guys with strut cars were making their own. I don't know for sure, but, I think they were using 2x3 which makes the front end about 150 - 175 pounds lighter than a gen 2 camaro. The 2x4 .120 rule kinda evens the weight issue out. You can still use an old 2x2 LM chassis and scab 1x2 on to make a 2x3 chassis from the clip back.

don't hate the 28 for being the first one to have a strut car at clinton , i bet 5 show up this year more extreme than the 28 , maybe someone will come with a full round tube car with a camaro cross member and struts where the coil overs used to be
