At Selinsgrove last night new rules were presented to the Pro Stock teams at the payout window. Quite a few of the new rules are somewhat unrealistic for some teams to complete and quite frankly are off base to the spirit on the division. Some of the rule changes are very good from the safety side. Could this be the end of a decent division?

Most of them are ones that have always been in place..But some (like leaf spring alignment) are major chassis overhauls that would take a considerable amount of time to fix. Not to mention ruin the integrity of the cars.

um looks like nothing will change, there was 20 of them on sat. my question would be is why some of the under funded teams dont sell and get IMCA modifieds and run at clinton or run a crate division somewhere , just guessing some of those guys have $20k plus in those pro stocks

They can spend what they are spending now and be competitive instead of being an also ran. The big benefit is there are lots of tracks within a couple hours drive that you can go race at if you feel the urge and its a national set of rules that are strictly enforced.

I think the easiest way to cut costs in the pro stock division at all local track would be going to a crate style motor. Whether it be the 602 or the 604, either of them would still be at least half the price of what most teams spend on engines now to be competetive. The extreme costs of engines really makes it hard for guys like me to move up with hopes of being competetive and I'm sure that most teams that dont have a big sponsor like Jason Smith or AJ Hoffman would agree that crate motors would be much better. It then becomes a division based on talent instead of the depth of your pockets.

Crates aren't the answer. It's a good idea in theory, but, it still has to be enforced. If you read forums from NY and other places they run crates, you'll see, most of the bitching and complaining comes from the crate guys. The idea of a crate is they are supposed to be all equal and no need for tech. Problem is, there are engine builders out there that will cheat them up and re seal them. If you want to equalize them, the easiest and cheapest way is to make them run on a the Hoosier G60 IMCA tire with no grooving or softening. Its the same size as what they run now, but, it is rock hard. It will take the big horsepower motors out of play and save money on tires because you can run one set almost all year.

the chassis are just as out of control as the motors , if all you want to spend is 3500-5500 on a motor then go IMCA

I'll agree to the IMCA. I would love to get into one of those, however, with the "uncertainty" of CCR and my location, its a big risk. I know Vern is doing everything he can to keep the track going and make it profitable, but that doesnt mean IMCA's will be there next season or even all season this year. Racing in most places has become a tough market for both fans and race teams. I think some of the chassis are out of control as well in the pro stocks. dirttrackrocker has mentioned before about using outdated late model chassis and how the cost would go down. Basically what I see in the pro stock division now is the same thing with the semi late division 15 years ago at Port Royal. They're going to end up being too close to a late model and they'll get rid of the division all together.

I am always baffled at the amount of cash teams are willing to spend to win basically nothing. You have a couple pro stock guys that spend all this money to be a big fish in a little pond.
