Has anyone been to clinton County Raceway yet this year??? And if so whats your thoughts? I know the late models race was pretty much single lane,I just wish they could get that track back to the way it used to be.

I don't think the racing has been too horrible but I do think new clay would help. Everything seems to look good in the heats, but come feature time there's no moisture and no traction. If you would have looked at lap times between the heats and feature in the modifieds last week I'm sure there was at least a second difference per lap.

I agree,I just thought going to port royal every saturday kinda spoiled us,and I do know slick track racing can be fun to wathch if there is 2 groves, but when the 800 horse power lates are there give them something to race on,I know 1 late model team traveled 3 and a half hours to get there and he asked if this is what the track is like all the time, and he didnt seem very happy.

I don't think the track was all that bad, yeah it slicked off a little, but, there were still 2 grooves there, at least there was when we raced. I didn't get a chance to see the lates race. I'd rather have it slick and smooth than rough, and from what they have to work with, I think it's an either or situation.

I was talking to a well respected late model driver and he said something interesting about clay,he said do you know how much good clay is built up in these pits from people cleaning the cars all these years, they would have to have the clay screened though, and Im sure that isnt cheap but I am willing to bet its a hell of alot cheaper than having it trucked in. I thought that was a good idea whats your thoughts?

I doubt it would be much more than 1 or 2 loads. Probably take a good 20 or so to do the track. Go to some of the tracks in NY, they would kill to have what we have. Most of the tracks up there (other than Woodhull) have little to know clay on them. The IMCA drivers from up that way love the fact that we have clay instead of dirt.

I have heard that before about no clay up north,I guess its just seeing so much passing at port royal Im kinda spoiled, and im sure the speed is another factor to.

I think one of the biggest factors is, it's so narrow, but, not much that can be done about that.

With Vern making the announcement Friday night that he's done promoting after August 30th, who does everybody think, if anybody, will take the reigns?

Who ever takes it over better have a lot of money to put new clay down,if they don't put clay down it will be a good micro sprint track, cause the dirt that is there now is total junk for any big horse power cars. Im gonna go out on a limb and say its going to be a micro track from some of the rumblings I have heard, but I dunno for sure.

Saw the c ar counts plummeted even after inheriting dunn-hills displaced cars. Almost 7 years of consistant mismanagement severely darkened the reputation of that place. They were good at "talkin' the talk" but action and effort... not so much. Good luck to anyone that wants to take it over. Gonna need that and a ton of $$$$$
