Why in the world did they cancel. It rained a little but not that much. Tonight would have been a beautiful nite to watch a nice field of latemodels for the spring championship. Did the storms do that much damage that they wouldnt have been able to be race ready by 7? Sad sad day. Bet Charlie is regretting that decision now with no rain falling anywhere in PA.
Hopefully they will reschedule this race.

Well I don't know about all that but it really pissed me off. We first lose a speedweek race for the lates now this is "cancelled" because of bogus reasons. And I bet ya if it was lets say the Jack Gunn Memorial they would've either tried to run it anyways or rescheduled already.
P.S. I am a sprint car fan but I like the lates just as much.
One hell of a way to treat a good division thats fun to watch and one that has also supported the track for so long.

I too was puzzled as to why he cancelled so early. My opinion is that they keep ripping up the track too hard for early in the year and blame it on the rain. At the end of the night, 1/3rd of the sprints are busted up junk. They probably had the track all torn up and watered already and then they got hit by a shower they didn't want. I went to the Lucas oil show out at Bedford and they moved the late model pits outside because they had even more rain that week than selinsgrove did. Heck the creek outside turn four was really up too. It started a little choppy in 1 and 2, but was nice and smooth by feature time. The next night at selinsgrove, cornfield again and I don't think they had to deal with as much as bedford did. Of course this is just my opinion. Not much rain this week, we will see what the track is like.

i don't think the cancellation had anything to do with the late models. y'all are reading way to much into it. an entire show was cancelled. i love it anytime there's an opportunity to get more late models to the track and 37 on a regular night was beyond awesome. don't think there would be that many last week but you never know. i don't think track conditions are the only thing that decisions are based on. it was a cold damp evening much like the first 2 regular shows which had poor attendance. you could've thrown a late model into the stands where i was sitting on those nights and not hit anyone. i'm sure expected attendance weighs into the decision just a bit. it is after all a business. that being said i hope the race is rescheduled or maybe better yet they should combine the purses/sponsorship money from the spring championship and the summer championship and run 1 big race on july 23rd

Sorry, I don't agree with everything you say but it is your opinion. First off, yes I agree, it was the entire show that was cancelled. For us Late Model fans it is very disappointing along with the fact that there has been no mention of a make-up date! As far as the weather being damp and chilly. Unfortunately, the sport we all love and support is an outdoor seasonal sport. A well organized forward thinking business would still take advantage of the early season dates to widen their season and not micro-manage one week at a time. Another thing I think is funny is that most tracks schedule roughly 25 weeks of racing. That leaves roughly 25 weeks of off time. Why in the world do they take a break in the prime of the season and close. Thats not a good business move!

i don't know why PR is taking 3 weeks off this year but i can tell you that when a week off was first discussed with teams at SG it was unanimous among those talked to, including three of the top running LM cars, to shut down for a weekend. the reasoning given by most of those in favor of it was that it gave them a chance to pre-schedule a summer family vacation instead of throwing one together at the last minute after a rain out. 2nd most given reason was it gives everyone, including race teams, tracks and fans a chance to take a breath and re-group after potentially running 12-15 weeks straight and for the teams, not losing any points in doing so.
as a FAN i too think the season could start a little later and then run longer thru september and even into october and never take a week off. although i do not know how that would affect the logistics of speedway or race team operation. therefore it may not be a prudent thing to do once ALL the pertinent data is analyzed.
if it were up to me, every Saturday i'd go with the immortal Ernie Banks who said "lets play two!" of course that wouldn't make everyone happy either.

Point taken! I guess it revolves around your definition of "pertinent"!
